We're civil engineers and land surveyors who've been working in southeastern Wisconsin since 1954. Our clients say we do solid work at reasonable prices. Our approach is neighborly, relaxed, and casual, but don't let the "friendly guys down the street" demeanor fool you. We get the job done right the first time.
Our story
Seventy-plus years, three names, one idea: do good work for the people around here.
1954
John H. Nielsen & Associates
Started mostly with engineering subcontract work for other consultants and area contractors.
1958
Into public work
Services grew to include highway design, municipal engineering, and stormwater management.
1969
Nielsen–Madsen Consulting
A new partnership forms under a new name.
1980
Nielsen Madsen + Barber
Successor engineers form the partnership that continues today.
What we do
We're a full-service civil engineering, land surveying, planning, and construction management firm for municipal and private clients.
That means municipal engineering, site design, roads, sewer and water, stormwater, airport work, surveying and mapping, and construction oversight, all from one office.
We're the Racine County Surveyor
Nielsen Madsen + Barber serves as the Racine County Surveyor. We maintain and restore the Public Land Survey System corners that every property description in the county ties back to, and Wisconsin surveyors file their survey maps with us.

Most of our work is in Racine and Kenosha Counties, from our office in Mt Pleasant along the I-94 corridor.
